Frequently Asked Questions About Concrete
🚧 HOW LONG DOES CONCRETE LAST?
Concrete can last 20–30+ years when installed correctly. However, in Colorado, poor installation or weather exposure can shorten that lifespan significantly.
What affects lifespan:
- Proper base preparation and compaction
- Reinforcement (rebar vs wire mesh)
- Drainage (minimum 2% slope recommended)
- Weather conditions during installation
- Sealing and maintenance
đź’ˇ Cheap concrete work usually fails early. Proper prep is everything.
❄️ WHY CONCRETE CRACKS (AND WHAT’S NORMAL)
All concrete cracks — it’s not a matter of if, but when.
Normal:
- Hairline shrinkage cracks
- Cracks within control joints
Not Normal:
- Large structural cracks
- Vertical displacement (heaving or sinking)
How we minimize cracking:
- Proper joint placement
- Reinforcement with rebar
- Correct water ratios in mix
- Solid subgrade preparation
📌 We control where concrete cracks — we can’t prevent it completely.
đźšż SHOULD YOU SEAL YOUR CONCRETE?
Yes — especially in Colorado.
Sealing protects your concrete from:
- Water penetration
- Freeze-thaw damage
- Sun fading (UV exposure)
- Oil and surface stains
Sealer finish options:
- High Gloss: Enhances color, “wet look”
- Medium Gloss: Balanced appearance
- Low Gloss: Natural, subtle finish
đź’ˇ Stamped concrete should always be sealed to maintain color and durability.
🏗️ REBAR VS WIRE MESH (WHAT’S BETTER?)
Not all reinforcement is the same.
Rebar (What we recommend):
- Stronger structural support
- Helps prevent shifting and major cracks
- Ideal for driveways and heavy-use areas
Wire Mesh:
- Minimal reinforcement
- Often sits on the ground (ineffective)
- Lower cost but lower performance
📌 We use #4 rebar spaced properly for long-term durability.
đźš— HOW THICK SHOULD A DRIVEWAY BE?
For residential driveways in Colorado:
- 4 inches = standard minimum
- 5 inches = recommended for durability
- 6 inches = heavy loads (trucks, RVs, etc.)
What matters more than thickness:
- Proper base compaction
- Reinforcement
- Concrete strength (4,000 PSI or higher)
⚠️ COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID
Avoid these costly mistakes:
❌ Hiring the cheapest contractor
❌ No rebar or poor reinforcement
❌ Improper drainage (water pooling)
❌ Sealing too early or not sealing at all
❌ Poor subgrade preparation
💡 Most concrete failures happen because of what you don’t see underneath.
📍 WHY CONCRETE IS DIFFERENT IN DENVER
Colorado is one of the toughest environments for concrete due to:
- Freeze-thaw cycles
- Snow and ice exposure
- De-icing chemicals
- High UV exposure
That’s why proper installation and sealing is critical in the Denver Metro area.

High Quality Materials and Workmanship
At Pristine Concrete Denver, we focus on delivering high-quality workmanship using the best materials available. Every project is built with long-term durability in mind — not shortcuts.
We don’t rush jobs just to move on to the next one. Our team takes the time to ensure proper preparation, installation, and finishing, because we know that what happens beneath the surface is what determines how long your concrete will last.
From base preparation and reinforcement to the final finish, every step is done with attention to detail. We use proven installation methods and high-grade materials to ensure your concrete can handle Colorado’s freeze-thaw conditions.
We also carefully plan our work around weather conditions, because timing plays a major role in the strength and performance of concrete. Rushing a project in poor conditions can lead to premature cracking, surface issues, and reduced lifespan — and that’s not something we’re willing to risk.
Our goal is simple:
Deliver a clean, strong, and long-lasting product that’s built right the first time. -

Benefits of Concrete
Durability & Strength
Concrete is built to last. When installed properly, it can handle heavy loads, daily use, and Colorado’s freeze-thaw conditions for 20–30+ years with minimal issues.
Low Maintenance
Concrete requires very little upkeep compared to other materials. With occasional cleaning and sealing, it stays looking clean and performs well without constant repairs or replacements.
Cost-Effective Value
Concrete offers long-term value by combining durability with affordability. Its longevity and low maintenance make it a smart investment for driveways, patios, and walkways.

Increase Your Property Value
Upgrading your concrete is one of the most effective ways to boost your home’s value and curb appeal. A new driveway, patio, or walkway instantly improves the overall look of your property and creates a strong first impression.
Clean, well-installed concrete shows that a home is properly maintained and built with quality, which is something buyers notice right away. Features like decorative finishes, stamped concrete, or custom walkways can further elevate the appearance and make your property stand out in the market.
Beyond appearance, new concrete also adds functionality and long-term durability, reducing the likelihood of future repairs — another major selling point for potential buyers.
Whether you plan to sell or stay long-term, investing in concrete is a smart way to add both visual appeal and real value to your property.
Rebar Grid
It's important that you have a minimum of 24in OC for rebar grid if you want the best results for your rebar. The rabar can be placed on dobies or chairs if you want to make sure it's 100% center of your slab pour. Otherwise, the concrete finishers working on your project will raise the rebar to the middle of the slab during the concrete pour.
