This stamped concrete patio project in Denver, Colorado is a great example of how an existing decorative concrete patio doesn’t always need to be completely replaced.
Approximately one-third of the existing stamped concrete patio needed replacement, while the remaining concrete was still in condition to be restored. Our team removed and replaced the damaged section, then worked on refreshing the appearance of the entire patio to create a more consistent finished look.
For the new stamped concrete section, we used Ready Mix Thyme #238 integral color. After the replacement work was completed, the patio was treated with Brickform Brick Red Antique-It to enhance the stamped texture, deepen the color, and help bring the new and existing concrete together visually.
We then applied a high-gloss concrete sealer across the patio. The sealer enhances the color and stamped pattern while giving the surface the rich, finished appearance you can see in the completed project.
Why Restore Instead of Replacing the Entire Patio?
When only a portion of a stamped concrete patio is damaged or deteriorated, replacing the entire surface may not always be necessary. Depending on the condition of the existing concrete, we can sometimes replace the affected sections and restore the remaining stamped concrete through cleaning, antiquing, and resealing.
Because existing and newly poured concrete can vary in age, texture, and color, an exact color match cannot always be guaranteed. However, antiquing and sealing the complete surface can help create a much more cohesive finished appearance.
For this Denver project, the combination of partial stamped concrete replacement, Brickform Brick Red Antique-It, and high-gloss sealer gave the backyard patio a refreshed appearance without requiring a complete tear-out.
