1,600 Sq. Ft. Concrete Workshop Slab Installation in Westminster, CO
Pristine Concrete Denver recently completed a 1,600-square-foot reinforced concrete slab installation in Westminster, Colorado, for a homeowner preparing to construct a metal building that will serve as a workshop.
Unlike a standard residential patio or walkway, this project required additional structural preparation, including deep concrete caissons, heavy-duty rebar reinforcement, and a properly prepared foundation to accommodate the future building.
Preparing the Ground for a New Workshop
Every successful concrete installation starts with proper groundwork. Our crew began by excavating and grading the designated area to prepare for the new workshop foundation.
We installed and compacted road base to establish a stable foundation beneath the concrete. Proper subgrade preparation is especially important in Colorado, where soil movement and seasonal temperature changes can affect concrete performance.
With the site prepared, our team moved forward with forming and reinforcing the slab.
11 Concrete Caissons for Additional Structural Support
One of the most important features of this project was the installation of 11 reinforced concrete caissons, each extending approximately 4 feet deep.
These caissons were incorporated into the foundation to provide additional structural support for the customer's future metal workshop.
The installation required careful excavation, placement of reinforcing steel, and coordination with the slab layout.
Heavy-Duty #4 and #5 Rebar Reinforcement
For this project, we used both #4 and #5 reinforcing steel throughout the concrete foundation installation.
Rebar helps strengthen concrete by providing tensile reinforcement and improving its ability to resist stresses associated with loading, movement, and temperature changes.
Combined with the 11 deep caissons, the reinforced slab was constructed with the future workshop in mind.
5-Inch Concrete Slab With a Smooth Finish
After completing the groundwork and reinforcement, our crew poured the approximately 1,600-square-foot concrete floor at a 5-inch slab depth.
The customer selected a smooth concrete finish, creating a clean, practical surface for the future workshop.
Once the concrete was ready, our team completed the finishing process and incorporated saw-cut control joints. These joints help manage the location of shrinkage cracking as the concrete cures.
The result is a large, professionally finished concrete floor ready for the next phase of the customer's metal building project, subject to the appropriate curing period and building requirements.
